It stings when you have an encounter with someone mean. By mean, I mean, insensitive, abrupt, lacking patience, or rudeness. Whatever feels "mean" to you.
Words can invoke visceral feelings, as if you were punched in the gut. Hurtful words invite shame, feelings of not being good enough, and sadness.
And, these feelings can erase your previously present happiness. Wow! Can we really give away our power to choose how we feel so easily? It happens. What can you do to get back to your happy feeling? Notice the emotions you are feeling. How do they show up for you? What thoughts or memories are triggered by this encounter? How can you use a practice of gratitude to allow your hurt feelings to move on?
