The new year is a new opportunity to re-set your goals and intentions. If you've worked with me as your #lifecoach before, you know that anytime is a great time to gain clarity on your goals. Since we are at the start of the new year, I will ride the wave of new intentions for the new year, with a goal in mind of supporting you in staying motivated.
Motivation may originate internally or externally and serves as the driver to act and achieve your goals. In this case, I will focus on internal #motivation because that is where you have the most power. While money or popularity may be great external motivators, they are not in your control.
Let's look at how you can stay motivated in 2026. First, what is the outcome that you are seeking? I find it helpful to gain clarity in my own life by looking at the various segments in the Wheel of Life:

Ask yourself how satisfied are you with your life in a category? How would you like to feel? What would you like to experience? What can you add to make your life more rich? What can you press delete on, and never feel badly about not being or doing that again? To gain clarity, you need to get specific. A broad goal or a vision of an intended outcome that lacks specificity is difficult to attain.
Are you ready to choose a category and get specific as to the goal you want to achieve so you can stay motivated?
With that in mind, let's take a look at the structure of true motivation. When you rely on willpower, it is very difficult to succeed. Will power is a consumable mental resource that gets depleted over time. Your state of mind, your energy level, and distractions all compete with your will power. Unless you have a personal life-guide named Will, will power is unreliable! ; )
An alternative to will power is Why-Power! Why-Power is a strategy that taps into your unique truth and acts like a North Star to guide you on the journey to achieving your goals. Why-Power can be supported by daily habits that tweak your behavior so that you are continually moving toward your desired outcomes.
Take the practical first step and write out your goals using the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Timebound). This is less fun than identifying your Why-Power, but is necessary so you have structure. #whypower, #smartgoals, #newyearnewyou
Once you uncover why you want what you want, you allow motivation to flow through you.
The WHY of your goals is important because:
Your goals are meaningful, and you will stay the course because of the meaning the accomplishment adds to your life
Your Why makes decision making so easy! This is the greatest gift of all. If you know, you know!
You will be pulled toward and guided to resources that support your vision for yourself when your Why is clear.
Your powerful Why compels your to do the things needed to achieve your goals.
With clarity and a deep inner knowing of why you want to achieve your goals, you are ready to launch into visualizing the outcome and experience. Take a few moments to picture in your mind's eye a scene of yourself living the result of your goals. Maybe you are at the office and get a call with an offer of your dream job! Picture the scene. Feel your emotions now as you would feel them when your goal is attained. Let them flow through you right now! Engage all of your senses as you imagine achieving the goal you have set out to accomplish.
When you are specific in determining what you would like to achieve, and you align that outcome with clarity as to why you want it, and then add in an immersed experience of picturing the outcome, you are on the way to staying motivated to achieve your goals in 2026. #helpmeachievemygoals, #thesecrettomanifestinggoals, #ittakesknowingwhy
