Thunder only happens when it’s raining Players only love you when they’re playing Women, they will come and they will go When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know
Stevie Nicks
By rain, I mean challenging times. Personal transformation is rarely born from complacency. When we are faced with an obstacle, feelings of discontent, or have lost our sense of self, that is when transformation happens. I chose to use rain as a metaphor, because it has been a very rainy spring, and now beginning of summer. I have found myself complaining about the rain, and missing the sunshine. And as I hear myself complain, I recall how it is then, in the dark times of my life, and those of my clients, where the desire is sparked to transform to the next best version of ourselves. And for rain, I have gratitude.
I have quoted Stevie Nicks, singer-songwriter, and although she was writing a song of love and heartache, I also read her beautiful lyrics in a broader sense. Thunder is the jolt you need to start your transformation. Your thunder may be a feeling of hitting rock bottom. Maybe it’s the last time you can accept the way your boss speaks to you. During challenging times, an event or feeling happens that differentiates it from other challenging times. That is your Thunder!
Let’s substitute the word Universe for players. The Universe, of course, loves you all the time, but especially engages in your favor when you are willing to play. For example, act as if you have what you want. Play outside of your comfortable space. Strip your mask and reveal your authentic face. Then the Universe will line up the opportunities you need to transform.
Fear and worry will come and go. Know they will pass. Bring your attention to what you want to experience and move your thoughts and actions in the direction of your desire. Fearful thoughts of your future are unfounded. Stories you tell yourself are worrisome. Let them come, and let them go. Free yourself and focus on the present.
When the rain washes you clean, you will know. At that point, you can look back at the struggle you have surmounted and appreciate the aspect of yourself that is now stronger brighter, and more authentically you. The rain has washed you clean, and you have emerged, transformed.
I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album – over and over. Poetry, it is!
