Do you find yourself ruminating and unable to let go of negative thoughts? Fear, worry and guilt are the three triggers that can get your mind stuck in negative thinking.
When you are ready to break free, there is a solution you can choose.
1. Imagine the thought as an object. The thought could be worry that you don't have enough money to send your child to college. Imagine an object that represents those feelings. The image that comes to my mind is a barbell loaded with weights.
2. Now that you have an image for your fear, worry or guilt, it is time to let it go. In your mind's eye, roll that barbell to a ridge and push it off a cliff. Watch it disappear into infinity as it drops. Remember, this is an imagination exercise. No harm will come as you magically release the weight of your worry.
3. Another way to let go of fear, worry and guilt is to imagine it in a helium balloon. For this method, imagine your fear leaving your body through all of your pores. Picture a misty cloud around you. Think of a color for this mist that matches your feelings. The color does not have to match your fear. Now that your fear is out of your body, the color may appear to be cheerful. Imagine that mist filling helium balloons. Now watch the balloons floating away. Your fear is transformed into a thing of beauty that will transform into peace as it floats away.
Holding onto fear, worry and guilt is of no value. Releasing and letting it go will free you.
