I was up early one morning and captured the peaceful coexistence of the sunrise, along with the moon shining brightly.
It was a natural wonder for me, and reminded me of how we can practice acceptance in our own lives. Nature is a great model for what is possible for us. The moon does not try to suppress the sunrise. It allows space for the sun to shine alongside it in the sky.
When we struggle to accept parts of ourselves, the behavior of others, or the world around us, we engage resistance. We are actively saying, "Bring it on!" Because when we resist things as they are, struggle ensues. Bringing in a sense of spaciousness to what we don't like or can't control invites acceptance into our lives.
So how can you be like the moon, and welcome the sunrise? Turn to your body as a source of healing. Use your breath to invite ease to the situation. Relax your hands upon your lap and open them with the purpose of allowing what is to be. Feel your resistance diffused by the spaciousness of acceptance.
