Valentine's decorations and candies are still out for sale in stores. Maybe you are just plain tired of all the fantasy and platitudes of this holiday. Maybe, you have a heart that is hurting. Heart-break and loss can feel magnified when it seems as though everyone around you is feeling whole and loved. In reality, there are countless people before you who have suffered the loss of a loved one by death, divorce or breakup. You are not alone in your experience of suffering. As you ride out your sadness, know that your feelings will ebb and flow like the tides. There is no final episode of the pangs of heart-break. You may be mourning the loss of your life as you knew it, or the future as you imagined it. Each of these feelings are valid and painful. On the bright side, a heart that has been broken grows larger with more compassion and understanding to share with others. So if you are feeling the pangs of loss, reach out to friends or family and share, be open and listen to their stories. Or, share this post with a grieving friend, and open your heart to them.
