Happy New Year!
What a great time to reflect on your life and consider what’s working well for you and what areas that you’d like to see expand or improve. New Year’s resolutions are common practice and often are stated with little intention. An example of a New Year’s resolution is: “I resolve to eat healthier.” A statement like this is broad and lacks specificity. It's a New Year and a New You! If you would truly like to transform in 2025, then identify what you would like to achieve in several areas of your life and WHY you would like to make these achievements. In each category, identify a goal that is meaningful to you and once achieved, will leave you living the best version of your life. When I completed my latest wheel on New Year's Day, it looked like a big blob! : )
For lasting change, you must engage both your thoughts and your feelings. How will you feel once you achieve your stated goals? How will you handle obstacles that arise? Why is it important to you to achieve your goals? Being clear on why you want what you want will tether you to the action steps it takes to achieve your goal. Sometimes goals are “shoulds” and are not truly aligned with your values. In that case you may decide it is not in your best interest to pursue them. Sometimes limiting beliefs get in the way of you even stating a new goal! I get that! You are not alone. Are you willing to try an exercise to get to the root of that limiting belief? If so, grab a notebook or your favorite way to take notes.
Write your lofty goal.
Now write all the reasons this is not feasible for you.
Don't hold back. This is your safe place to release why you believe you are "not good enough."
With the energy of "impossible" released, continue to write about what life would be like IF you really did achieve this goal.
Let go of any shame or limitations and act as if this goal has been achieved. As you write, feel the newness of it, the joy, the sense of pride and accomplishment.
